Cinque Terre is a very beautiful yet isolated town in Italy which name means five villages when translated in the English language. For a lot of travelers, Cinque Terre is the perfect place – it is a collection of the finest Italian towns where you can enjoy Italy minus the commercialism and urbanization.

Cinque Terre is composed of the smaller villages of Monterosso al Mare, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza, and Riomaggoire. When you come here, you’ll feel very detached from the real world – but in a comforting kind of way.

And if you do come to Cinque Terre, here are the top three must eat foods that you should never miss.

1. Seafood

Let’s talk general here. Whatever you eat in Cinque Terre with fins and shells are all fantastic. But one of the best local favorites here is the anchovies. These small fish are the same ones you love on top of your pizza. Here in Cinque Terre, they’re at their finest. Dressed in lemon, stuffed with garlic, and fried to perfection, how can you not indulge in just a little bit more?

As for seashells, mussels are your best bet. Try the local stuffed mussels and you’ll agree that the village’s version is incredibly tastier than how they tasted everywhere else. What’s inside these shells are the sweetest surprise. When the local restaurants cook them, they incorporate a variety of ingredients like grilled calamari, fish salad, and capon magro, among others. And however the mussels are cooked, whether baked, or stuffed, or stewed, you’ll simply love it.

3. Pesto

Pasta in its finest form – there’s no other way to describe this Cinque Terre specialty. You better try it to believe it. Realize that Liguria is where Pesto originated. This is the perfect snack while you enjoy the beaches of Cinque Terra. You can buy the bread from almost any bakery in town, but do try the one that comes with sage, olive bits, and onions while you’re it. It’s better than the plain kind.

The Farinata, on the other hand, is a kind of fried bread. It’s made with chickpea, oil, pepper, and water. You guessed it right – it sounds like a pizza dough. And it’s the best one too. Farinata is baked on a tray inside a wood stove. In case you’re asking, yes, you can buy this from pizza stores as well.
