Bar and Restaurants in Monterosso

Monterosso is not just a great place for its beach and hiking escapades but also has some real good eateries and night life.

Weather you come to Monterosso by plane, train or a good hike, the village beach never fails to greet you with their dances and fire light. This is more like their reputation! During summer, most weekends (nights) the beach becomes a happening place with many discos and bars.

What’s a Riviera without one such scene after nightfall...

The old town is a prime location for late-night fun. Pubs and bars serve appetizers like olives, anchovies, cheeses or focaccia breads. Wines, liquors and local tap-beers set the mood throughout the evening. Booze gets generally served on specific hours of 9a.m. to 1p.m.

Most bars stay open until the wee hours and maintain open air ambiance.

The food in Monterosso is highly hearty yet earthy, the wine, full-bodied. If you are unable to find a place to buy wine, ask the locals, and most families sell it privately too.

Italians of this region really know how to add flour to their food. Olivesin particular are a local favorite. Porcini, ovuli and chiodini wild mushrooms are also a loved specialty.

Wild boars’ meat stuffed inside chestnut flour pasta and porcini mushrooms is a finger licking ancient specialty on this place. Seafood is quite talked about. Their local sauces of tuna, sardine torte alongside Saracen origins and Byzantine are insane.

Some restaurants within the area you can’t miss:

La Cantina del Pescatore (via V Emanuele 19, Monterosso al Mare):

Run by a very pleasant couple. Extremely friendly and uses fresh ingredients in focaccia and bruschettas. Great for its view for some fine wine and granite. Sit by the ocean and watch the sunset!

Enoteca da Eliseo (3 Piazza Matteotti, Monterosso al Mare. Tel: 0187.817308):

A wine bar - doesn’t serve food but awesome nibbles of olives, capers, and peanuts. A great spot for drinks and it has a beautiful outdoor patio and a perfect inside area to sit. Typical interiors and settings with barrels and wine bottles displayed that look attractive.
